North Course ~ Makena Maui
The
newer of the two courses, the North Course opened in 1993.
This course goes out of its way to make golfers feel at one
with their natural surroundings. There are no distractions
on this course-unless you considered the unobstructed views
of the blue pacific, neighboring islands, and humpback whales
breaching during whale season to be a bit distracting.
In fact, to make it feel more like a nature walk and less
like a golf course, even cart paths on the North Course are
tucked away and hidden from view. Natural Hawaiian rock walls
are left right where they were found, and they play an integral
part in the course design. Natural gulllies and streambeds
are also left intact. The fourteenth hole has a 200-foot elevation
drop between tee and green.
An added bonus to save golfers some time looking for lost
balls, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed most fairways so that
everything slopes back towards the center.

South Course ~ Makena Maui
The remote setting and well-spaced tee times make the South Course
a favorite of many Maui golfers. It provides the serenity and
tranquility many golfers are looking for. Designed by Robert
Trent Jones, Jr., the South Course is a 6,739-yard, par 72 course
with natural rolling fairways, undulating greens, and captivating
ocean and mountain views.
The tenth hole is a favorite. Nestled between a view of the
Puu Olai cinder cone to the west and the clubhouse with the
Ulupalakua Ranch in the background on the east, the tenth
hole is a long 502 yards. Golfers like it because they can
really let the shaft off on the drive. Long hitters can reach
the green in two, or the hole may be played by laying up for
an easy pitch shot.
The proximity to the ocean is exactly why this course is so
special. Besides having two oceanfront holes, numbers fifteen
and sixteen, the South Course also affords an excellent view
of humpback whales that visit here each winter. And since
they keep coming back year after year, they must be on to
something good!
